Man gets 50 years in prison for $1.2-million fajita scam

For nine years a Texas gentleman was making a fortune with a fajita scam. 53-year-old Gilberto Escaramilla earned a total of $1.2-million by ordering hundreds of pounds of fajitas every day for the Juvenile Justice Department that he worked for. He would then intercept the order and sell the fajitas to his own outside customers.

His scheme might have continued for another nine years or more, but he was busted last summer when he missed a day of work. According to Fortune:

His scheme was discovered when he had to miss work one day and his colleagues received an 800-pound delivery of fajitas. This perhaps wouldn't have been unusual—if the kitchen at the detention center served fajitas.

While testifying Escamilla reportedly said, "It was selfish. It started small and got bigger and out of control. It got to the point where I couldn't control it anymore."

Escaramilla was sentenced to 50 years in prison for his fajita shenanigans.
